Vito Pipitone was indicted Wednesday in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is allegedly an associate of the Bonanno crime family, involved in a racketeering-related stabbing five years ago. The incident in question revolves around a restuarant connected to Bonanno capo Paulie Spina. The restuarant was constantly being vandilized, until the Pipitones were called in to take care of business.
Hawaii prosecutors said Pipitone, who was married in New York last weekend, was on Oahu for his honeymoon. Pipitone turned himself in at the Honolulu federal building Wednesday after he heard about the indictment, Hawaii prosecutors said.

He is scheduled to be released on $50,000 bail on Friday in Honolulu unless a judge in New York orders him held without bail.

The FBI rounded up 13 Bonanno gangsters, including Vitos brother, reputed capo Anthony Pipitone, on Oct. 7. Family members contacted
Vito and his wife when they reached Honolulu and told him the feds were looking for him, too.

F.Y.I
The wedding was first rate, and enjoyed by all. However the Pipitones did recieve to many place settings, and will be taking some back.

THE GAZETTEMONTREAL – Nicolo Rizzuto, father of reputed Montreal Mob boss Vito Rizzuto, was shot and killed in his home on Antoine-Berthelet St. near Gouin Blvd. Wednesday evening, The Gazette has learned.

If your going to Montreal anytime in the near future, take a bullet proof vest, as all hell is breaking loose. As a mafia war is breaking out in the city. Since the imprisonment of godfather Vittorio Rizzuto, no fewer then 5 of his top soldiers/associates and relatives have either been murdered, or are missing. Vito is doing a stretch for the murder of the three Bonnano captains in 1980. You remember the scene from the movie Donnie Brasco. The three captains were lured to the basement of a home, while Al Pacino and company were waiting. That scene is not 100% true, but close enough. Well Vito was part of the crew that whacked out the three captains. The Bonannos have always had a close connection to the Montreal organized crime crew, and several members of the Montreal crime family are actually members of the NY Bonanno family, including Vito Rizzuto. Vitto is the current head of the Montreal family, but his father Nicolo was the first of the Rizzutos to hold the mantle. The Bullets started flying in near the end of December, Nicolo Rizzuto’s namesake and grandson, Nick Jr., was killed on Upper Lachine Rd. in Notre Dame de Grâce. This was followed by the disappearance of Paolo Renda in the spring. Renda is the son in law of Nicolo Sr , and the brother in law of Vito. Renda is married to Vito’s sister. He was also the consigliere of the family. And weeks later, Agostino Cuntrera, considered a potential leader of the Sicilian clan in Montreal, was gunned down in front of his business in St. Léonard.
Right after Renda disappeared, Nicolo Rizzuto Sr. was warned by police that his life might be in danger. As a result, Rizzuto delayed the start of an impaired driving trial in municipal court.
There has been speculation that street gangs are behind the murders, as well as bombings of Italian restaurants in the area earlier this year. Rizzuto Sr, was killed by a sniper in a tree behind his home. Street gangs? No way!!. There has been speculation that an insider in the family is making a grab for power. There is also speculation that he Calabrians in Toronto, which is the biggest city in Canada and a top 10 world financial center, together with the Calabrians in Montreal and Italy are taking back what was theirs. Remember that Nicolo took the reins from the Controni family before he took power. The Contronis were of Calabrian decent.

Last but not least, some say that the NY Bonannos are staking there claim. The former acting boss of the Bonannos Sal “The Iron Worker” Montagna was recently deported to Canada from NY. Rumor was that the Rizzuto’s were not going to take any orders from The Bonanno family. With Sal in Canada, it is really a crap shoot as to who is behind this. We will keep you informed as soon as we get more info.

With the up coming trial of Mike “Fat Mike” Sarno, I thought we would take a look at the structure of today’s Chicago Outfit. The outfit is run, and has been run since “94 by John “No Nose” Difronzo. Difronzo got his nickname one of two ways. If you believe him, he got it while in a shootout with the cops. If you believe the cops, he got it while grabbing retail goods out of a store front window. In the old days, his M.O was throwing a rocks through plate glass windows of certain department stores, and retrieving as many things as he could before the cops got there. Jimmy “The Man” Marcello is the underboss even thought he is incarcerated. Joe ” Joey The Clown ” Lombardo is the consigliere. He was also rounded up in the latest family secrets trial, but is still wielding power from jail, just like Marcello. In that trial, we finally found out what really happened to Tony & Michael Spilotro. Tony Spilotro was portrayed in the movie “Casino’ by Joe Pesci. The brothers were driven to a house in Chicago, were they met there demise in the basement, before being driven to a field in Indiana, where they were buried in a shallow grave. Joe ” The Builder” Andriachi is considered the overall street boss handeling day to day affairs for Difronzo.

The crew are divided into 4 regions. The Elmwood Park crew, wich is run or overseen by Capo Pete”Greedy Petey” Difronzo. The Melrose Park crew, wich is run by Capo John”pudgy” Matassa. The West side crew wich is run by Capo Joseph”Joe Kong” Cullota. And the South Side crew run by Capo Frank ” Tootsie” Caruso.

Each Capo has 4 street bosses under them. Mike Sarno is under Pudge Matassa and the Melrose Park Crew. Sarno started his caraeer as a little fat kid running errands for the older outfit guys. Working his way up the ladder of organized crime, Sarno become an enforcer and loan shark in the Cicero crew. He was always seen as a muscle guy, and his reputaion would take him a long way on the streets of Chicago. Sources say Sarno is the new face of the Chicago Outfit, and it is a poor reflection on the state of the mob in the city. One source said Sarno is a strange character, and and is not smart enough to put his own things together, so he just takes from other people. I ask you, Isn’t that what organized crime does?

Sarno is on trial for ordering the firebombing of a video poker business in 2003. The business was in direct competition with another mob owned company. Sarno was also being paid street tax by a pawnshop owner that operated a crew of high end burglars.

The New England Mafia was always an interesting situation. The New England mafia has always had it’s roots in Providence, Rhode Island, and Boston. Raymand Patriarca was the long standing boss, and the family thrived under him. His base was always the National Cigarette Company located in Providenvce Rhode Island. It was even said that him and Frank Sinatra had investments in a racetrack together.,When Raymond died in 1984, the family was passed onto his son Raymond JR. Jr was a flop. Besides being a very weak leader, the family was actually taped during an initiation ceremony for new members under his watch. The FBI said that he couldnt lead a brownie troop. It didn’t take long for Jr to get arrested, and in 1989 the family was taken over by Luigi “Baby Shacks” Manochio , who led the family through the nineties, along with his under boss, 400 pound Carmen ” The Big Cheese” Dinunzio. Now we just learned that Baby Shacks and The Big Cheese are out, and the family is being run by a multi millionaire.
Peter Lamone was just identified as the new head of the family. Lamone spent 30 years in prison for a crime he didnt commit. He was awarded his freedom and ,and , oh by the way, 26 million for the wrongful suit. You have to wonder why a person who was just awarded 26 million by the government, would want to risk losing it all to run a second tier crime family. Then again, Lamone took an oath, and he is an old time gangster.

The state authorities say that they have just crippled a highly organized and violent crew run by Capo Mark Rossetti. Rosetti’s crew delt in the usual staples like loansharking, drugs and gambling. Also arested was Rosetti’s right hand man Ernest Bufalino. Stayed tuned for more Clam chowder mafia talk.

Massino was the long time boss of the family before getting indicted in 2004. Massino would have faught the charges, but the flipping of his underboss, and brother in law, Sal Vitale, caused a mass infestation of rats to turn on Massino. Massino bumped Basciano to acting boss , only to turn on him after the government started lining up Bonannos to take the stand against him. Rumor was that Massino really hated Basciano, so that may have been his motive to make him acting boss once he new he wasn’t going to get out from under his idictment. Basciano was indicted a short time after Massino. The two shared a wing of the metroplitan detention center, when Massino taped two conversations with Basciano involving the killing of Bonanno mobster Randolph Pizzolo. Pizzolo had let word out that he was going to kidnap one of Basciano’s kids. That was enough to get whacked. The second conversation inolved Basciano talking about whacking a federal judge who already sentenced Basciano to life on an earlier case. Rumor had it that by taping Basciano and testifing against him at trial, the government wouldnot seek the death penalty against Massino. Also, the government would let Massino’s wife keep the family home.

Bonanno Associate Threatens to Make Swiss Cheese Out of Loand Sharking Customer.
As reported in the NY Daily News

Bonanno family associate James Malpeso pleaded guilty yesterday to threatening to kill a loan shark victim over a $500,000 loan-sharking debt. Melpeso cruised around Staten Island looking for the intended victim in his Cadillac Escalade.
During a meeting with the victim, Malpeso was taped by federal agents threatening, “You owe $110,000 . . . you never f- – -king paid. . . . I’m going to put a hole in you somewhere.”
Malpeso faces up to 20 years in prison, but under a plea agreement, the most he’ll likely get is five years, plus a $100,000 hit for restitution.

Bonanno Big Takes Plea

Bonanno mobster Joseph (Sammy) Sammartino cops plea on loansharking charge.
A member of the families ruling panel Samartino pleaded guilty in Brooklyn Federal Court Monday to loansharking.
The reputed capo admitted that he conspired with other wiseguys to collect a high-interest loan from a victim identified only as “Sal from Staten Island.”
Sammartino, 55, of New Jersey, faces up to two years in prison when he is sentenced in October by Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis.

Bonanno Busted For Hitting Pappa Bear.

Brooklyn Bonanno Armando Rea was just picked up in Las Vegas for whacking Gerard Pappa in 1980. Pappa was a feared wiseguy in the Genonvese family. The order came down by then boss, Vincent “The Chin” Gigante. Supposedly Pappa was doing some unsanctioned work ( he wahacked someone without orders). You have to think Joey Massino my be whispering in the ear of the feds on this one.(See Massino at the top of this blog) This hit was 30 years ago. Not alot of Bonannos are around from those days. The ones that are have been with the feds since the Massino trial. Pappa was the mentor of Sammy The Bull Gravanno. Gravanno even named his only son after Pappa. Pappa’s son John, was a Colombo associate who got jammed up in the War of 1990 and is now doing life. The younger Pappa fired the shot that killed Colombo Capo/Underboss Joey Scopo.(all pictured below)<img src="http://www.tommysaturdaynight.com/wp-content/uploads

Back in April of this year, word on the street was that the top spot of the Genovese crime family was on the verge of being filled. With the conviction of acting boss Danny” The Lion” Leo, and the death of long time Genovese family boss Vincent “The Chin” Gigante, the top spot in the Genovese family had been vacant. But that was about to change sources were saying as one of the families long time Capo’s was back on the streets and had his eye on taking over.

That was the word back in April. But things in the underworld happen quickley.

Word came down that Tino Fiumara died September 16th from a fast moving bout with pancreatic cancer.

Fiumara was boss for the Genovese crime family in New Jersey, and considered next in line to take control of the crime family. known as “The Greek” and “T,” Fiumara controlled labor rackets on the New Jersey waterfront, as well as illegal gambling, loan-sharking, extortion and narcotics.

A powerful figure in New Jersey organized crime for three decades, Fiumara was convicted of racketeering and extortion in Manhattan federal court in 1979 and convicted of extortion in Newark federal court in 1978. Released on parole in 1999, he was again locked up for parole violations, and released for good in 05. He was linked by law enforcement to numerous murders, including the death of Lawrence Ricci.

In 2005, Ricci’s decomposing body was found in the trunk of a car in New Jersey and it was said Fiumara approved the hit because Ricci refused to plead guilty in an ongoing racketeering trial.

One law enforcement offical said ” No one was feared more than Tino, You didn’t want to be called in by him. His eyes were black, he was very intimidating”.

With the passing of Fiumara, the most likely canidate for the top spot is Liborio ” Barney ” Bellomo. A ranking capo, Bellomo was one of the fastest rising members in the family, becoming a capo in his mid twenties. Bellomo was considered Vincent Gigante’s logical successor as boss of the Genovese family until Bellomo was sent to prison in 1996; now out on parole, his current status in the Genovese family is unknown.

RIP Tino

( San Gennaro Feast September 16th -26th)

If you google The San Gennaro Feast, you may end up with something like this as a definition;

The Feast of San Gennaro originally was once only a one-day religious commemoration. It began in September, 1926 with the newly arrival of immigrants from Naples. The Italian immigrants congregated along Mulberry Street in Manhattan’s Little Italy to celebrate San Gennaro as the Patron Saint of Naples. The Feast of San Gennaro is a large street fair, lasting 11 days, that takes place every September along Mulberry Street between Houston and Canal Streets.[3] The festival is as an annual celebration of Italian culture and the Italian-American community”.

What the San Gennaro Feast really is, is a time for the mob to milk the Italian church and feast goers for all it can.

About 200 street vendors set up shop along Mulberry Street during the festival, hawking the event’s signature sausages and peppers, among other items, to an estimated one million visitors each year.
The feast is usually overseen by the Genovese Family, or the Bonannos. The families get there cuts off the booth rentals, set up and breakdown, electrical contracts and carpenters fee’s. I once heard that booth rentals can go for as much as a hundred large for the 11 day event.

The feast was run in the 70′s and 80′s by Genovese soldier Thomas Cestaro , then later by Anthony “Tony Water Guns” Pisapia. Both were indicted with the acting heads of the family in June of 96′.

After a sitdown between the Genovese and Bonannos, the Bonannos placed Perry Criscitelli in charge of the feast. The best part of this, was that Criscitelli was put in charge by Rudolph Giuliani’s administration. The former mayor pledged to eliminate Mafia influence by having the independant panel elect Criscitelli. Little did they know that Criscitelli was a Bonanno soldier.

Tommy Saturdaynight will be attending this years feast. Before I head out to The big Apple, I want to share my top 3 experiences from past feasts.

1. Sitting at a store front cafe behind the booths, i noticed a small man in a shiny maroon suite named Sal, take a wad of cash from the vendor of the booth that could choke a horse. After Sal took the wad, he ducked down an ally and was gone.

2. Wearing a cigar t-shirt one year, I was waiting for a beer when the guy at the booth asked what i wanted. I answered Coors Lite, he said to hold on. After the rude exchange, he came back with my beer. I was reaching for my cash when he said “oh your with them? , just take it”. Hmmm, did he think I was with the Three Little Indians cigar Shop?

3. The best canoli I ever had was from Fortunato brothers bakery. A couple years later, I read in the Paper, Baker indicted for Murder. Mario Fortunato was arrested for murder conspiracy. He has since beat the case. Good thing too. I love there canolis!!

In the movie “Gotti”, Armand Assante, who plays John Gotti, recollects how Aniello Dellacroce told him to “Suck it up, do the time, take the fall. That makes you what you are, that makes you who you are”. A couple wiseguys in the Genovese family either didn’t see the movie, or failed to take that advice..

Felix Tranghese became the second Genovese wiseguy from Springfield Mass to flip. Tranghese, a capo in Springfield Mass, is charged with the murder of former Springfield boss, Big Al Bruno. Bruno was gunned down in 2003 on the eve of his 58th birthday, in a power play for control of the Massachusetts rackets.

The biggest rat to emerge from this indictment is Anthony Arillotta. Arillotta was to take control of Bruno’s rackets after the hit, was taken out of general population in March, shortly after his arraignment.

Supposed Genovese boss Artie Nigro (has to be the front boss) will soon be saying bye bye, and taking a vacation with the government. After the rats hit the stand, You wont here from Nigro again.

The Genovese Family is known as the Rolls Royce of the under world, the Ivy league of organized crime. This stuff in Springfield can’t be sitting well with the top brass of the family known as the” WestSide”.

Anthony “Tony D” Palumbo, acting capo in the New Jersey crew of the Genovese family just took a plea deal for ten years, on murder conspiracy charges. Palumbo wanted to whack out Russian mobster Monya Elson over issues with a gas tax scheme, made popular in the 80′s by Michael (the yuppie don) Franzese of the Colombo family..

The contract was given to soldier, Johnny” Balls “Leto The murder plot was set into motion, even a dry run was carried out. The plan was nixed by Palumbo’s capo at the time Daniel Pagano. Pagano was worried about a major problem with the Russians if this hit went down. Pagano was also getting a penny for every gallon of gas taxed through this scam.

Tony D was probably schooled by New Jersey boss, and possible family boss, Tino Fumira. The rats in Massachusetts should follow the lead of the boys from Jersey.
